Hi, my name is Neil Rielly and I’d like to introduce myself as one of your 3 Labour Unitary candidates for Desborough and Villages on the 1st May 2025.
I’m 51 years old with 2 sons. I’ve lived in Corby for almost all my life except for 3 years when my family moved to Desborough.
We lived in The Ridings off Whitehill Road and I went to school at Havelock Junior School and Montsaye. My parents ran, what was called, the Desborough Working Men’s Club on Victoria Street. My older brother also both played and managed Desborough Town FC.
I have fond memories of growing up in Desborough and I’m delighted to stand as a candidate to represent the town and surrounding areas. For the last 3 years, I’ve been fighting NNC with various campaigns which have decimated my trade. My views on the current Executive committee are very well known and can be found by a quick search on Google.
I’ve spoken at Full Council, Licensing, Scrutiny and Executive committees. I think I’ve attended more council meetings than some of the councillors!
I also campaigned to get my industry access to over £750,000 of vital COVID grants that helped support the local Hackney Industry.
One of my earliest memories of Desborough being overlooked, was when both schools and residents were getting behind the Desborough Swimming Pool campaign but the powers that be, decided against it.
For too long Desborough has been bypassed by the Council and it’s time that it had councillors that will be prepared to fight for them.
I’m someone who is not afraid to stand up and challenge for what is right for everyone not just the few.
I must admit unlike other candidates I won’t be pledging to stop the boats unless, of course, they happen to be moored in any number of large potholes in the area or be able to scrap Net Zero as I think this maybe outside of my remit as an NNC councillor, but I will try my utmost on all your local issues.
