Many residents properties back onto the railway line that makes the western border of Wicksteed & St.Michaels ward.
In preparation for electrification of the Midland Main line work will commence from 26th January to start clearing the vegetation. This work can only be done at night when the trains have stopped running for the safety of the workforce.
This will cause some disruption for our residents with flashing lights, reversing bleeps on machinery, and the general thrum of running machines.
All vegetation within 6.5m of the tracks will be removed, and most of it chipped on site and left in situ for wildlife. Some stretches will also see new galvanised palisade fencing.
For many residents who have complained about overhanging trees, blocking out light & falling leaves this will be welcome news; for others who appreciate the shelter that trees provide this will be disappointing.
All affected residents should get a letter from Network Rail with the dates when work will start on their part of the line.
If you have any particular issues or concerns then Network Rail’s 24 hour helpline number is 03457 11 41 41, and further information can be found on the Network Rail website here: https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/lne-and-em/midland-main-line-improvement-programme/.
