Today, I received training about the planning regulations. You see, I am a substitute member on the Planning Committee. Without training, I would not be allowed to fulfil that role.
Tomorrow is an exciting day, because I will hold my first street surgery. On Saturday, I leafletted Linden Avenue and tomorrow I will check which residents in the street want to talk to me. I will be accompanied by County Councillor Eileen Hales. As a former borough councillor, she knows the ropes much better than I do.
This morning, I also made a site visit to a grassy area in our ward that has become a battle ground between a few young people and older residents. It has already taken up a fair amount of time.
While picking litter on the same green tonight, I managed to get into a constructive conversation with one of the offending boys. He wanted to know why I was picking litter, and I explained that I care about the people living in my ward. I’m amazed how much picking litter impresses people.
I also pick litter along the pavement of Sunley Court and Cransley Hospice, opposite my house. Every little helps. I really want to make a difference.
