1977, The Queens Silver Jubilee, the Union Flag flying all over Desborough and Phil Sawford stands as a Labour candidate for the first time.
Black and white with no photograph the Co-op printers (corner of High Street and Victoria Street) charged £15 for the printing. With just 6s 9d in the branch coffers David Coe, Tony Allen and Phil Sawford donated £5 each to cover the cost.
Phil won the election and served on the Town Council until 1997.
