Some November/December 2015 mini-updates from Piper's Hill councillor Anne Lee!

Learning about Waste Management

A major function of the Borough Council is rubbish collection. On 2 November I attended a session on Waste & Recycling in Kettering Borough Council. In December I will attend a regional workshop on Better Waste Management in Nottingham tomorrow, to learn about future developments and best practice in waste management.

Public Space Protection Order

The Public Space Protection Order for the town centre has now been accepted, banning drinking and aggressive begging from the town centre. The Labour group is disappointed that the Market Square is not exempt from the skateboarding ban, despite it being the clear wish of most young people in Kettering. The Christmas lights switch on was a triumph, though.

Street Surgeries in Pipers Hill

My latest street surgeries in Southwood Drive, Ise Road and Windmill Avenue revealed problems with litter and a vandalised bus shelter by the Kettering Science Academy that no longer provides shelter. I am exploring what can be done about it.

Anne has been an active councillor for 5 years. She represented Pipers Hill on Kettering Borough Council, and now represents Windmill on the new North Northamptonshire Council. She was a school governor at St Edwards Primary School for 8 years and has been a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator for over 30 years. She has 3 grown-up children and lives in the ward, working as a freelance linguist. She is an impassioned supporter of community hubs, such as the Green Patch and the Grange Resource Centre. With a Master’s in political sciences, and a keen interest in improving the new authority’s communications with residents and businesses, she promises to be an active councillor with a strong voice, and is particularly interested in reducing carbon emissions and in supporting families with children.
